Welcome to our new site!
We are a group of 5 academics, including senior lecturers and graduates all with an interest in researching therianthropy as dubbed by the online community. We aim to conduct professional research with full ethics backing in a hope to try and find not only common themes among the experiences of those who are self-identified therians, but also try and investigate finding a potential cause of therianthropy and bring some understanding in both the scientific communities and society in general about who a therian is and what they experience.
Our team conduct our own research in our free time with hopes of benefiting the community as a whole. Our research is conducted according to the scientific method to minimize any biases. We have ethics backing from the University of Northampton; however this does not mean the university shares our opinions, so anything you see on this site is purely a result of our own work. In order to do this we are also trying to encourage collaboration between other scientists and academics in research on this topic including helping undergraduates wishing to research the topic.
Therians and non-therians alike are encouraged to participate in research, because without our participants we cannot conduct research, and so those who do form the most important part of our team. We can currently only cater to individuals over 18 for participation as they are able to give adult consent; however if you are under this age but still want to participate please contact us so we can discuss this as we would require parental consent.
We do have a specific process for academics wishing to become affiliates and conduct research with the group's backing or work with the group. We like to have full proof of who you are, including your academic background with copies of your graduation certificates, and any details of research you have had published. The group will then check if you are who you say you are, then we can begin discussions on how you would like to proceed with us. Your information will not be released to any third-parties. For further details feel free to contact us. Details of affiliates will be posted on our affiliates page, just go to our 'Affiliates' page.
If you do not wish to become an affiliate but still wish to conduct research, then we'd still love to hear from you and discuss with you areas that could potentially be looked into, or discuss therianthropy in general. We aim to get therianthropy known within the scientific community without the bias the media has currently shown.
The Therianthropy community in general have had bad exposure in the past, making the majority suspicious and nervous about participation, but many are eager to see proper and ethical scientific research done. We hope to be that positive influence to help push the research forward in an unbiased way.
If you are a fellow academic and would like to conduct research with us or with our support please contact us at:
Feel free to email us if you require any more information.
We are pleased to announce that we have had published the following paper;
Grivell, T., Clegg, H. & Roxburgh, E.C. (2014) An Interpretative Phenomenological Analysis of Identity in the Therian Community. Identity: An International Journal of Theory and Research, 14, 113-135.
Due to copyright issues a link to the study cannot be put up until May 2015.
Our study into the 'mental well-being of therians' is now closed for participants. We want to say a very big thank you to everyone who responded and data analysis is now underway.
TRG has been getting some interest from various media about interviews relating to therianthropy. At this early stage we are not yet ready to give our opinions as we have no evidence at this point to support any claims about therianthropy of any kind. Once we have conducted a few studies we will be happy to speak to media purely about our research and the conclusions we have reached from it. It is good to remember that studying therianthropy is a very new area of science and so will require time to accumulate results.
